Dynasty done?
NOT
in "Trojans focused on return to winning" Bruce Feldman waxes poetic about USC and their current dynasty ending...much like the Miami Hurricanes of 5 years ago.
I think Pete Carroll is much better of a planner than Larry Coker but its something to be careful of.

I totally agree with you. For the last month we've heard the press talk about Larry being miscast as the coach of the U, that a different personality was needed to run the program, and that his lack of leadership played a central role in Miami fading from the ranks of the contenders.
St. Pete, on the other hand, HAS proven himself capable of running a high profile, high pressure program at USC and, HEY, he is still in charge.
These are two very different programs in two very different situations.
Yes, USC's success will bring early defections to the NFL and, Yes, coaches are going to leave if they have a good shot. But Trojan fans should keep things in perspective. We lost more talent than any other contender in the last off season and still were a tipped pass or two away from returning to play in a fourth straight title game. That's pretty impressive for a program on the verge of collapse.
Certainly, USC will need to show up tomorrow to maintain our momentum recruiting-wise. But should we lose, we will still be a contender next year. After all, who else would we place, right now, in the top four slots for next year's BCS?
As a PR guy, I understand how irresistable it is to write an article forecasting the decline of a program as successful as USC, and the ND message boards certainly are on fire with this kind of talk, but there is what is juicy and drives eye balls and sells magazine, and then there's reality.
Right? Weren't many of the same press idiots saying ND was a shoe-in for the national championship just a few months ago?
